Callander Charrette
Shaping Callander's Future
The Callander Charrette was a very successful event attracting approximately 400 residents including representatives from local youth groups, over five days from Saturday 19 to Wednesday 23 November 2011.The event was formally concluded by Bruce Crawford, Cabinet Secretary for Government Strategy and Parliamentary Business who commented:
"I was very impressed by the commitment of the community in Callander to
the Charrette project which was demonstrated to me by the excellent level of
attendance at the closing event. I was particularly pleased by the important
contributions to the project made by the town's younger people clearly evident
that evening. The Callander project is the second Charrette in the Scottish
Government's Charrette Mainstreaming Programme, and it is through this that
Scotland is leading the way in how communities are contributing to their future
environments. I look forward to seeing the community, Stirling Council and the
National Park Authority working together to explore how they can take forward
the recommendations of the Charrette."
The Process
Part of
the Scottish Government sponsored SSCI Charrette Mainstreaming Programme, the
Callander Charrette involved hands-on workshops where ideas were translated
into plans and drawings. As well as the input to the master plan a review of
community facilities was also undertaken. The master plan framework will
influence future Local Development Plans and feed into the development of the
new Community Action Plan being led by the Callander Community Development
Trust.

Next Steps
The next stage in the Charrette process is the compilation of early action tasks by the Callander Partnership. Agencies, along with Community Groups have already started to progress plans to improve the town infrastructure. The Callander Community Development Trust are simultaneously working with the National Park’s Community Partnership to deliver the next Community Action Plan for Callander which will complement the tasks resulting from the Charrette.
