Sustainable Tourism
In January 2008 the National Park Authority submitted an application to the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism in Protected Areas and a site
verification visit followed in April 2008 leading to official charter-mark
status.Loch Lomond & The Trossachs is the second area in Scotland
to receive the award and only the seventh area in the United Kingdom
to have been recognised since the scheme was launched in 2001.
The internationally recognised European Charter is awarded to protected areas
that support sustainable tourism – tourism that contributes to local economic
development while preserving the area’s natural and cultural resources.
