2009 A Year to Remember 09/12/09

Fiona LoganHi,

Having been in post as Chief Executive for the National Park for over a year now, I wanted to take this opportunity to share with you some of the highlights of that time. While there have certainly been some challenges, there has also been the satisfaction of knowing we are on the right track and achieving success along the way. But the reason I love this job so much is that we’re safeguarding the National Park for future generations to enjoy and despite all the challenges, I believe we have made great progress this year in our three main areas of work, namely Visitor Experience, Conservation and Rural Development.

National Park Community Partnership Update 01/10/09

Iain McInnes Chairman of the Community Partnership and Fiona LoganHi,

I would like to tell you about an exciting transformation that is happening in the way communities are supported in the National Park.

The National Park Authority put forward a proposal to the National Park Community Partnership to significantly increase its independent role in providing support services to community organisations in the Park, as well as delivering projects. And I am delighted to say that the Community Partnership approved our proposal yesterday.

A Busy Summer in the National Park 27/08/09

Fiona LoganHi,

We had a strong feeling that record numbers would visit the National Park this summer as more people choose to holiday at home and we certainly have been proved right. Our Rangers are speaking to as many visitors as possible and also keeping the 720sq miles of the National Park looking at its best.

Ranger teams have been working from 10am to 10pm every day including weekends and in key visitor hotpots such as Luss, Sallochy and Millarochy Bay and Loch Lubnaig to ensure visitors are welcomed. They are also able to share their expert knowledge about the Park and advise people where to visit, the best places to eat and stay and what they can expect to see on their trip.

Update from the Communities Team 23/07/09

Killin aerial viewHi, this month Fiona has invited me to give you an update from the Communities Team.

Our Team in Rural Development is small but perfectly formed! There’s me - Lesley Campbell, the Team Manager, four part time Community Development Officers,  two Sustainable Development Officers (although these posts are shared by three people), and our invaluable Support Officer.

Through our Community Futures programme our current priorities are supporting the twenty Community Development trusts around the Park to take forward their priorities in their Community Action Plans. These range from developing a community Play Park in Luss to getting interpretation boards in St Fillans.
