Work Continues as the Seasons Change 01/09/10

Fiona LoganHi,

Even though the best of summer is now behind us with the mornings feeling a little cooler, visitors are still coming into the Park to discover the delights of the outdoors and work here at the National Park remains as busy as ever.

Our planning team has been particularly busy with a number of significant planning applications, some of which have attracted considerable media coverage, both locally and nationally and provided plenty of debate.

Planning in a National Park is often a controversial subject which generates strong emotions both among those directly involved and also among a wide variety of interested third parties. And, much of the time, it is the planners who end up being portrayed as the “bad guys” due to some of the very difficult decisions they have to make. This is regretful because, without exception, the National Park planners are an extremely professional, dedicated and skilled group of people, committed to delivering the highest quality public service.

In the News as the Season Starts 30/04/10

Mike CantlayHi,

Looking after the Park continues to be a busy job for us all and the National Park’s Convener, Mike Cantlay, has recently become busier still having been appointed to the prominent position of Chair of VisitScotland. This significant appointment follows years of hard work and dedication to his role here at the Park and we will no doubt benefit from Mike’s dual role during his remaining time as our Convener.

While this nationally-important appointment has generated a fair amount of media exposure recently, we have also been in the newspapers for a wide variety of other reasons.

We were lucky enough to host two visits from Environment Minister, Roseanna Cunningham, who spent a morning on the East side of Loch Lomond and announced £400,000 of investment in infrastructure projects in the area, funded by ourselves,  Forestry Commission Scotland and SNH. This was followed by a meeting with local community representatives in St Fillans in the North of the Park where local issues and projects were discussed.

Working Together to Make a Difference 26/02/10

Fiona Logan, Roseanna Cunningham, Mike CantlayHi,

We were delighted to host a visit from the Environment Minister, Roseanna Cunningham, here recently at our Headquarters in Balloch. The purpose of the visit was to chair an urgent meeting to urge representatives from national agencies, NGO’s and local authorities to contribute fully towards helping with pressing National Park challenges.

In her opening remarks, the Minister spoke of the importance of partner organisations in working with the Park Authority, delivering the National Park objectives and the collective duty to deliver the Park aims.

2010 The Year Ahead 08/01/10

Snow capped Ben MoreHi,

Having enjoyed a lovely festive break including sledging with the kids, it’s great to be back in the Park and to see how beautiful it looks amid the current wintry conditions. While these conditions undoubtedly bring their own challenges, you can be sure that we are doing all we can to maintain access to all of our surroundings. In common with our local authority partners, our Ranger teams are working hard to keep the Park as safe and accessible as possible.

As we enter a new decade, it’s clear that we have much to look forward to in our National Park. 2010 promises to be an exciting year in the development of the Park with several significant anniversaries and milestones being reached.
