National Park Biodiversity Action Plan

National Park Biodiversity Action Plan logo
The National Park Biodiversity Action Plan 2008 – 2011 was developed by a working group of public and voluntary sector organisations involved in conservation and land management in the National Park. It is a collection of practical actions by everyone involved and will help us contribute to longer term ambition to put the National Park at the leading edge of conservation on a grand scale.

It is at the heart of our priority theme of conservation management.

Our Biodiversity Action Plan examines what is happening already, sets out a vision for the next 20 years, then goes on to detail a rolling three-year work programme to improve the key habitats on which many of our most iconic and important species depend. It also includes a small number of work plans for individual species that need action over and above improvements to habitats, such as the water vole, red squirrel, black grouse and capercaillie.

Also built in are actions to develop full biodiversity audits, including invasive species, and a programme to investigate ways to cope with the effects of climate change – possibly the biggest single threat.

Following a consultation during autumn 2008, this final plan was approved by the National Park Authority’s Board in December 2008.

The Friends of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs received a grant in 2009/2010 to develop a web-based wildlife diary. The Wild Lomond website provides a wealth of information about the wildlife of the National Park, where to see it and when. To find out more visit www.wildlomond.co.uk
