Aerial view of flooding in CallanderLoch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park Authority is pleased to confirm that MNV Consulting has just been awarded a contract from the National Park to carry out a strategic flood risk assessment for Callander.

Stuart Mearns, Forward Planning Manager said: “This work is part of a programme of supplementary planning guidance which is part of the Authority’s emerging first Local Plan. The Finalised Draft is currently out for public consultation which will close on 6 April.

This strategic assessment will improve our understanding of what level of flood risk applies within the town, building on the indicative 1:200 year Flood Risk Maps created by SEPA and other flood risk information held by Stirling Council, SEPA and the National Park Authority.

The project will identify potential measures that need to be taken for future development to take place.  It will also provide guidance to assist those applying for planning permission by highlighting best practice mitigation measures which can be adopted. The work will also promote community understanding of the role of the planning system in respect of flood risk.”

The study should be concluded by Easter 2010.
