Practical Conservation Projects Driver

We are looking for volunteer drivers to transport volunteers taking part in Practical Conservation projects throughout the National Park. This is a very important role as staff currently take a great deal of time to drive from the project area to the collection point in Balloch, doing two return trips in the day. Not only is this time consuming for them, it is also not environmentally friendly! As a volunteer driver you would pick up a (5 seater) vehicle from the Headquarters in Balloch and then drive the volunteers to the project site, only making one return journey.

Skills, attitudes and experience needed

This is a position of some responsibility, as you will be driving an official Park vehicle and transporting volunteers. Due to this, you must be an experienced and confident driver.

Benefits to the volunteer

As a volunteer driver for the Practical Conservation Projects you will gain experience in a position of responsibility, transporting passengers and taking responsibility for the vehicle whilst in use. You may also be driving through some parts of the National Park which are new to you!

Where?

Projects run throughout the National Park but you will be collecting the vehicle from the Headquarters in Balloch, and volunteers from the Slipway. Your own travel expenses to this point can be reimbursed for public transport or mileage.

When?

Initially we are looking for drivers to cover weekend projects. Please refer to the Quarterly Volunteer Programme to get an idea of frequency of projects. Pick up is normally between 9-10am and returning by 4-5pm.

Age restrictions

Minimum age 21, with a license held for more than 2 years with not more than 6 points.

Who will offer supervision?

An information sheet and checklist will be supplied relevant to your role. Once you start you will not be supervised whilst undertaking your role. However, staff at the project site will be contactable if there are any problems on route. Also, if you have any questions or need for further support you can contact Zoe Morris, Volunteer Manager.

Selection Methods

Please return your application form to Zoe Morris if you are interested in doing this role along with the Practical Conservation Projects role. She will then get in touch to arrange a meeting as you will need to bring in your drivers license, so we can make a copy for insurance purposes. We will also need to take your photo for an ID badge so you can get the car keys from security.
