Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park - Welcome

Travel Warning From National Park Authority 26/06/2009

26 June 2009

With soaring temperatures expected over the weekend Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park Authority is calling on visitors travelling to the Park to use their common sense and act responsibly.

The Park is enjoyed by more than 5 million people every year and is one of the most popular destinations in Scotland for day trippers.

However, the influx of visitors can lead to traffic congestion with visitors forced to spend hours in their cars rather than enjoying all the Park has to offer. Amongst the busiest areas are Luss and East Loch Lomond from Balmaha to Rowardennan.

Chief Executive of the National Park Authority, Fiona Logan, said: “The Park has some of the country’s most stunning scenery but this is not solely restricted to the most popular destinations.

“We are urging visitors to use their common sense and to consider alternative destinations in the Park. We would also call on people to park responsibly and to use designated car parks where available as parking on roadsides can cause access issues and congestion.”

Some alternative visitor destinations within Scotland’s first National Park are:
  • Tarbet, off the A82. Cruise Loch Lomond operates from here and there are a range of facilities including picnic tables, toilets etc
  • Leave the car at home - take the ferry from Gourock to Dunoon
  • Avoid the traffic and cycle up the West Loch Lomond Cycle Path
  • Head to Arrochar and walk up the Cobbler
  • Have a picnic at Firkin Point, off the A82
  • Head to the Trossachs and visit Loch Katrine, Callander or Aberfoyle for forest walks and beautiful scenery
