Camping Byelaws Background

The National Park Authority undertook a 12 week public consultation on the East Loch Lomond Camping Byelaws. The consultation received 286 responses.
 
Responses came from individuals and organisations within and outwith the Park, including Scottish Natural Heritage, Ramblers Scotland, Central Scotland Police, Community Councils, and local interest groups.

18 June 2010
Overall the feedback to the proposed byelaws was positive with many good suggestions on how to improve the proposed byelaws. A consultation report was prepared summarising the responses received from the consultation.

23 June 2010
A paper was submitted with recommendations for consideration by the National Park Board at their 23 June meeting. Click here to see the agenda and papers for this meeting.
 
The byelaws were approved but were subject to a further one month consultation prior to application for confirmation with Scottish Government.
20 August 2010
The National Park Authority issued a public notice to start the process of confirmation of the East Loch Lomond Camping Byelaws by Scottish Ministers. The notice invited objectors to notify Scottish Government of their views by 20 September 2010.
 
21 September 2010
The National Park Authority submitted an application for confirmation of the byelaws to Scottish Government.
10 March 2011
Environment Minister, Roseanna Cunningham, approved the camping byelaws on East Loch Lomond to come into effect from 1 June 2011. Under the seasonal camping byelaws, it will be an offence to camp overnight on the east side of the loch in an area covering 9 miles between Drymen and Rowardennan, from 1 March to the end of October every year outside designated camping sites.
