Planning Your Visit

Inchcailloch has something to offer in every season of the year.

Day Visits

Inchcailloch is ideally located for a day visit and is just a short boat ride from Balmaha. When planning your visit be sure to check our events calendar. Throughout the summer season there are often events that showcase the island.
 

Corporate and Group Visits 

If you are a corporate group or have a party of 12 or more, please let us know when you will be arriving on the island and what you wish to do. We can then provide you with guidelines prior to your visit, and inform you of anything that may affect your trip to the island.

Balmaha Boat Yard operates a ferry service to the island and arrangements can be made with the Boat Yard for larger groups. For directions to Balmaha click here.

What to Bring

When you visit the island please come well prepared with sturdy footwear, waterproofs, food, water (there is no running water on the island), sunscreen and most importantly the mighty midge repellent!
 
There are compost toilets on the island. Please ensure that they are kept in a clean and tidy condition and do not put any inorganic material down the toilet.
 
As there is no refuse collection on the island. Please take ALL your litter and disposable BBQs home. There are recycling facilities and bins in the Balmaha car park.

Camping

Respect the Island

Inchcailloch is a very special place, part of a National Nature Reserve, and we ask that you respect the Island and follow these simple steps:
  • Take ALL your litter home
  • Never cut down or damage trees
  • Keep your dog under close control especially during the breeding season (1 April to 1 August)
  • Use a stove or leave no trace of a camp fire
  • Respect your surroundings and others around you
